I know for some, this is so generic and it’s more like, we’ve heard and read it all… however, being a Christian blogger is beyond making your content religious. I remember when I transitioned to faith and lifestyle blogging newly, I was looking for a book, an article, or a resource similar to the contents of this book or a post that says something like this post; “The Christian Blogging E-Book every Christian Blogger Needs”. It was quite difficult finding Christian influencers that will inspire me, act as a guide or give an idea of how to not start from scratch just because I’m rebranding. I couldn’t find any resource that will be my manual. This inspired me to write How To Start & Run A Successful Faith & Lifestyle Blog one year later after rebranding as a faith & lifestyle blogger. This is because there is an urgency to saturate the blogosphere with Christian content!
It took me a while to discover other Christian influencers, but eventually, I discovered the Black Christian Influencer (BCI) which is a paid community. I was able to go through their site to see what they are about; I was very much excited to be part of their community, in fact, I joined their mailing list, downloaded their app, etc. However, I noticed that the cost of joining their community was quite high (naira to a dollar is no joke). I kept searching and I discovered other amazing creatives, but most of them were just creating for social media. As much as it was thrilling to be inspired by their contents, I still didn’t get any satisfaction because I was yet to find Christian bloggers and influencers that were bloggers too, especially now that a lot of people consider blogging ‘dead’.
So here I am, A Christian creative, very passionate about taking on online evangelism as a Christian faith & lifestyle blogger or what I call, “A Christfluencer”. With the limited knowledge, I had about Christian blogging and unsure of how far this journey will take me, what the experience will be like… with so many unanswered questions.
“Will people still like my content?”
“Will I still be accepted?
“Will the Instagram algorithm make it possible for me to be found?”
Since they started censoring lots of Christian content or any content that is not what the deep state or pop culture approves of.
“Can I make money as a Christian blogger?”
“How can I make my content exciting for my readers while still sharing the word of God?”
“How do I attract the unbeliever to my site?” etc
I had a lot of questions and tried to run from this calling for so long and it may surprise you, but it has taken me at least three years (if not more) before I made up my mind to accept it.
No wonder, I struggled a lot as a regular blogger… I always felt a vacuum. No matter what I wrote or brand jobs I got, I always knew God wanted me to make a room for him on my platform. One that he gave me. I never felt satisfied or a sense of fulfillment writing about fashion and beauty and eliminating a part of my life that is most important to my existence, my relationship with God.
In the book of Mark 16:15, Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” As God’s children, we have a ministry of reconciliation, and influencing the world for everything else except “the gospel” is a mistake. We are God’s generals, how will you give an account of the video editing skills, graphic design skills, etc. that you acquired as a content creator if you didn’t give room for God in them? How will you account for the souls (fan and followers) God pushed your way by virtue of your online platforms? God has given you a message that can potentially transform hearts. What are you doing with it? Why ignore the call of God on your life, chasing mundane things that have no value in God’s kingdom?
All these and more have been my musings those years when I kept running from this online evangelical ministry. Yes! That is what Christian blogging is. So I finally transitioned in May 2020. Covid brought a lot of things into perspective for me. It all worked out for my good. Blogging became more satisfying and fulfilling for me. The more I write, God keeps expanding my knowledge and creative ability. And, no. it has not affected my ability to make money from my blog.
