Are you born again? Do you want to know God more and build a relationship with Him? Get saved.
22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
– Roman 3: 22-26
What does it mean to be saved?
I know you might be wondering, I am not in a dungeon or captured, so I don’t need saving… but here is what it actually means to be saved
To believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. To believe that Jesus Christ came and died for your sins. To accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, to confess with your mouth that you are saved and then proceed to live a godly lifestyle, knowing that you belong to God now, just like Paul the apostle said in Galatians 2:20,
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.“
You get saved in four steps
ADMIT that you are a sinner
A lot of times I’ve heard people say stuff like, “I’m not really a religious person, I just do good and try to be nice to people around me.” Some go ahead to say, “I’m even better than most church-goers”.
Well, the truth is that while goodness is a good trait to possess, that is not what gives us a pass to heaven. The scripture above from Romans 3 shows that all humans on earth have sinned because we all were brought forth from the first man and woman Adam and Eve, who committed the sin of disobedience against God. As such, all humans were automatically condemned to death and hell.
If you have lied, gossiped, taken what is not yours, looked at a woman or man lustfully or with lustful thoughts, etc. you have sinned. Man was born with the nature of sin.
So you see that, if you have never made that prayer of salvation (or maybe you were saved but you’ve backslidden), you are still a sinner, and admitting it begins your journey towards becoming born again and building a relationship with God
BELIEVE in the message of salvation
Now that you’ve accepted that you are a sinner, the next thing is believing in the message of hope, which is the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. That He God, lowered himself to become flesh in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ to live sinless among us, perform many miracles, die, and resurrect.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son; and whosoever belieth in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
His resurrection brought us salvation because then, he overcame death and took the keys of hell from the devil and such, as many that believe in his name shall be saved and their names recorded in the book of life.
ACCEPT Jesus as your Lord and savior
Do you accept him as your Lord and savior? What does this mean? This means you are ready to set aside all your worldly/canal standards of living for the God-way.
“For what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul in hell?” (Mark 8:36)
This means you are ready to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life: that you are ready to live according to the word of God as recorded in the Holy Bible.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelations 3:20)
This means you are willing to make room for the Holy Spirit to come and dwell in your spirit, making it possible for you to live a righteous life.
CONFESS that you are saved
The bible says that, “death and life are in the power of the tongue”. Also, Jesus once said, “the words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life.” Confessing the Lordship of Jesus over your life is sending a message to the spirit realm that you are no longer a part of the kingdom of darkness. You are telling the devil, “I belong to Jesus now, you have no place in my life no more.” You are truly and completely freeing yourself from the bondage of sin and death.
For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness, for with the heart, confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10)
BECOME the new creation that you are
After making the confession of your salvation, you begin to consciously get rid of the elements of your old life that cause you to sin. However, this might be a little bit difficult, but because you have the spirit of God in you now, if you lean on Him, He will help you become a new man. In reality, you cannot live a Christian lifestyle by yourself, you need the word of God in your spirit.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
One of the fastest ways to start your christian journey is to join a community of believers and here are some benefits;
- You won’t feel lonely
- You will find encouragement
- You will find prayer partners
Now when you join any community, don’t play a passive role. Participate in activities, that way you are busy and the devil won’t have room to distract you. Note: Your old friends and family members will not easily let go of you, they will/may try to get you back to your old self, but don’t succumb.
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; (Titus 2:12)
You will/may struggle to let go of old habits too, the devil will try to guilt-trip you anytime you stumble, but don’t listen to him. God loves you unconditionally and Jesus Christ has paid the price of your sins already, so if you stumble, don’t dwell there. Rise and keep walking.
Prayer of Salvation
Oh Lord God, I believe with all my heart in Jesus Christ, Son of the living God. I believe He died for me and God raised Him from the dead. I believe He’s alive today.
I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day. Through Him and in His Name, I have eternal life; I’m born again.
Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul! I’m now a child of God. Hallelujah!
